What could be better than working out with a midwife by your side? Tanya is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer, Crossfit Level 1 Trainer and Pregnancy and Postpartum Athleticism Coach. Your personalized work out will not only keep you in good shape, which is excellent preparation for labor, it will facilitate the best possible fetal positioning and will avoid exercises that can cause discomfort or put excessive stress on your abdominal wall and pelvic floor.

The most common reason I hear from women for not exercising during pregnancy is a fear of harming the pregnancy. The truth is, not exercising during pregnancy is associated with complications including excessive weight gain and an increased risk of developing high blood pressure and gestational diabetes.

It is recommended that pregnant women exercise for 2.5 hours per week in a fairly even mix of cardio and strength training. However, my years of experience as a midwife have taught me that people are frequently afraid they will harm themselves or their fetuses or just the opposite, that they feel they can push just as hard as they always did. In reality, the truth lies in between and varies from person to person.
